Oh, well. It was an honour and a pleasure to have produced both those records and I am grateful I am not the only person that noticed them. I have not done professional singing for many decades. I still sing and play my beloved piano. I also play the Cajun accordion and sing in Cajun French. My dogs think my music is so wonderful!

She was many things I am not, notably a brash and ballsy extrovert. I am an introvert and, frankly, being Rita Jean Bodine exhausted me. I always preferred the quieter side of music making — background studio work, songwriting, sharing music with friends and family.

I hated touring and found the fast-track of record promoting utterly draining. Her original moniker didn't scan, but she adored her new incarnation and used it at a recording session as a joke. It stuck. Even when she married Stanley Morgan, the production assistant on her debut album, he agreed that Rita Jean Bodine was too musical to discard.

On signing to 20th Century, it was the name she chose to be known by. Rarely have a name and a look been more compatible. Like most constructs, the edifice of Ms. Bodine was iconic and glacial. Gentle On My Mind appears to be her final single — I prefer the b-side. All best wishes, CD. As for what happened to her, well I have no idea, but I still play that album, on vinyl, and still enjoy it greatly.

Thanks, Scott. Her second album ended in a similar vein with a piano ballad — a less subtle but very passionate one. Local jazz-rock band Crossfire backed her. Bought the single soon after.. Do tell if you learn anything, please.. Your email address will not be published. She just seems that kind of woman, brazen, sophisticated, and vulnerable.
